My name is Shannon, and I am a Maine native. I have two daughters (18, 16) whom I homeschool, and we have 4 cats. The cats are considered family, not pets.
I run a small daycare in my home, sell scrapbooks, pages, cards, etc., and trying to build a writing career. All of this keeps me very busy.
I believe that Maine is a wonderful state, but that it can be improved in many ways. I believe that it is important to purchase everything that I can in Maine. However, I cannot afford to do this all of the time. I also believe that it is important to eat organic, locally grown foods, but can not afford to do this all of the time, either.
I am working on doing everything that I can to support my home state, and I hope that others are as well.
DD#1 is planning to move to Fort Kent with her fiance. Yes, I am aware of the flood and the tornado, but those things happen in other areas of Maine as well. As a matter-of-fact, we had a tornado right here in Milford not too many years ago.
DD#2 is still in high school. She takes part in the Upward Bound program, and loves it. I am saddened to hear that certain ill-informed people want to close down the program on the UMO campus. It is a great asset to many students who really do care about their education. I hope that it does not close down until after my daughter is finished with it. I would rather the program keep going.
